Danu Spa@Lakeview welcomes first couple

It’s one PM on November 1st, and my newlywed cousins are just finishing their 3-hour Divine Bliss honeymoon package at our brand-spanking-new spa which opened at 10 AM this morning. It’s the least we could do to soothe their aches and pains from completing their rites of passage into marriage and full-blown “contributing adulthood” in the village.

Yesterday they had to walk in a parade through the village so all and sundry can recognize their union. They also checked in as a couple in all the divine registries of the four village temples of their ancestors. Starting with the 7th-century Pura Kayu Selem, then Pura Batur, Pura Tuluk Biyu, and last but not least Pura Bukit Mentik – the last ancient temple to remain not-burried-by-lava in the crater of Mount Batur.

Jyoti, their feisty 18-month baby (yes, it took them that long to complete the ceremonies — by the time my parents completed theirs, they had three kids already), is fast asleep under the supervision of his nanny.

And here come the parents, smiling and all relaxed. I’m up next – I want to try the warm stone back massage to get my knots ironed out.
